The residence of Hilton Court is marked on Colby's map and can be traced back to 1323 when a Walter de Hilton was in residence.
Over the years many generations have owned or farmed at Hilton all must have enjoyed its unique location. Some residents extended the house and outbuildings while others planted woods to harbour game for the shoot.
Some had as many as six servants in residence, while others worked the land, which at one stage extended to 600 acres.
Peter and Cheryl Lynch, the current owners have lived here since 1977. They decided the estate needed to support itself to survive, so in 1989 they started to dig their first pond, and the foundations of the Gardens and Nurseries took shape.
In the years since they transformed this landscape into the original gardens, their aim was to use a bit of extra magic to create a centre that will be like no other you've ever visited.
To compliment the Garden Centre they successfully converted the stable outbuildings around an idyllic Victorian Courtyard which houses the Restaurant, Gallery, Pottery and Gift Shop that you see today.
The Gardens are peaceful and tranquil and needed a special feature for visitors to be able to appreciate the peace and serenity. The answer came in the shape of the viewing platform with surrounding seats which was built in 2001.
All gardens are ongoing, and theirs is no different. Their aim is to build on the structure already created, and continue to enhance and develop the gardens to compliment the natural surroundings.
The fame of Hilton Court is now spread far and wide - and has been featured twice on the HTV television programme 'Get Gardening'.
